Course Programme

This advanced level accredited course equips participants with practical skills and knowledge on how to create professional looking, traditional wood graining paint effects.

The course enables participants to work closely with an experienced and qualified paint effects artist with over 35 years of experience in the industry, working in a safe and inclusive environment.

Upon completion, participants will receive 6, valuable CPD credits and a signed, CPD accredited certificate for the course.
Course Breakdown
Morning
09.15 Registration

A short overview of the history and current use of wood graining in the workplace

Demonstration of wood graining by course tutor
-
A short recap of the correct methods of surface preparation, including primers and basecoats
-
Preparing and priming sample boards
-
A short recap and explanation on the correct mixing and use of glazes by course tutor
-
Preparing and mixing glazes
-
Introduction of tools and equipment used to create wood graining effects
-
Practice creating three distinct wood graining techniques, including background effects and graining techniques
Afternoon

Prepare and basecoat final assessment board provided

Using previously mixed glazes participants will create their three assigned wood graining effects to produce a competent and realistic sample piece for assessment by the course tutor

Assessment will include the level of knowledge of the types of woods to be reproduced, the skills involved in preparation and mixing of glazes and the use and knowledge of tools and equipment used

Participants will be given the opportunity to ask the course tutor any questions pertaining to the course

Participants will have the opportunity to keep their final assessment board to take away with them to keep and use for their own portfolio

Participants will be given handouts and encouraged to provide feedback through reflective practice and evaluation sheets
